WHAT IS THE DOWNINGTOWN HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PARENTS ASSOCIATION (DHS MPA)?

We believe in the power of music to enrich the lives of our students and contribute to their overall education. The mission of the MPA is to provide additional support and resources to the music programs at Downingtown HS West, Downingtown HS East and the Downingtown STEM Academy to ensure their continued success.

WHAT DOES THE MPA DO?

The MPA plays a vital role in your child’s music education by supporting the music programs financially as a supplement to existing district funding. Examples of the ways the MPA supports our music directors and students include the following:

  • Financing concert attire, concert folios, or uniform
  • Refreshments for concerts or celebrations
  • Scholarships for graduating seniors
  • Funding for clinics or master classes
  • Salaries for supplemental staff, such as drumline and color guard instructors, and choir piano accompanists
  • Providing fundraiser opportunities for individual student accounts (DSF Accounts) to help students offset participation costs, such as trip participation costs, membership participation Fees & District Activity Fees, or purchasing items necessary for music program participation (uniform items, etc.)
  • Chaperoning trips, football games, or competitions
  • Planning and staffing music events that are hosted within the district, such as the Cavalcade of Bands “Music in Motion” and US Bands Competitions
  • Staffing the concession stands for ALL home sporting events (football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey)

HOW DOES THE MPA RAISE MONEY?

The MPA raises money by running the concession stands for all Fall and Spring sports, conducting various fundraising efforts, hosting band competitions and selling Candy Grams at events.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Volunteering with the MPA offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the musical education of our students. By volunteering your time and efforts, you can contribute directly to the success and growth of our music programs. Here are just a few ways you can get involved:

  • Volunteering: Sign up for a few concessions shifts during any of the sporting events, help staff one of the music competitions, or join a committee.
  • Event Planning: Help organize and execute events such as competitions, fundraisers, and community outreach programs.
  • Fundraising: Contribute your ideas and efforts to our fundraising initiatives, ensuring that our music programs have the resources they need to thrive.
  • Community Outreach: Be an ambassador for our music programs by engaging with the community and promoting the importance of music education.
  • Join the Board: Elections are held April.

Your involvement, no matter how big or small, makes a significant difference. By joining in the efforts of the MPA, you become an essential part of a supportive community dedicated to nurturing the musical talents of our students.
